Kaleidoscope: Creating The Carnival Of Colour

The brief

Over 300 festivals of all shapes and sizes take place in Ireland each year. So you’d think there’s something for everyone – but that would be incorrect. Or rather, it was incorrect, until 2019.

Before then, there existed in Ireland no music and arts festival for families and friends. There were festivals for adults that were family friendly and family friendly events, but both tended to feel like a compromise for both the adults and the kids. Somehow, everyone goes home unhappy.

Opportunity

But not today. We saw the opportunity to change that and turn the old ‘you can’t please everyone’ adage right upside down by creating a new proposition – a unique, inclusive and exciting festival for family and friends and absolutely everyone from age 0-100 (or more).

The Idea

Simple – to create Ireland’s biggest and best actual family festival. A weekend camping event with music, arts and wellness for everyone’s collective enjoyment. A carnival of colour to take place at Russborough House and Estate in Blessington, Co. Wicklow each June, kickstarting the summer the day schools close their gates.

And even though it makes us want to be kids again, it doesn’t really matter. It genuinely is for everyone. So at least we don’t have homework to deal with.

What We Did

Collaborating with festival partners Fuel, Festival Republic and Live Nation, we conceived, named, branded, curated, marketed, built, hosted and delivered our first festival in just under 4 months from a standing start to 13,500 happy festival goers. Since then, even with the tiny matter of a global pandemic, our 2 editions have grown steadily – and our 2023 event is on course to be our biggest yet.

The identity and visual look for the festival was created by the Tenth Man Creative Studio, with a little help on character design from celebrated Sheffield illustrators TADÓ. Kaleidoscope is an all-agency affair, with TTM Design, Creative, Content and Film teams developing and deploying for all channel needs – be that marketing and advertising, social, radio, online, PR and more. The Kaleidoscope-ic world we’ve created, with all its colour, energy and cute characters has means we cut through the noise of festivals and events with our own vibe each year, creating a distinct difference for the wonderful fields of families, friends and fun.

And the work doesn’t stop once we get our audience to the festival gates either. The entire Tenth Man team works alongside our partners to ensure the very best experience for everyone onsite. Our mission is to unlock colour, positivity, fun and creativity in everyone – especially adults. Music, arts, science, fitness, comedy, cinema, food and drink, nature, creativity, storytelling, carnival and so much more plays out across multiple stages all weekend long. There’s a smorgasbord of craic and vibes in every corner of Kaleidoscope, and that’s how we can claim our truth – that this is really and truly the festival for everyone.

As we grow into the years ahead we can’t wait to bring even more colour to the fields of Blessington – and elsewhere. Watch this rainbow space…

Results

In its first year, Kaleidoscope firmly established itself as THE family festival for Ireland. Our team and full festival family are fully focused on making it bigger, better and even more full of colour for everyone every year.

We’ve also established ourselves on the international scene with artists, 2023 welcoming Nile Rodgers & Chic, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Newton Faulkner and others alongside incredible Irish talent like Gavin James, B*Witched, Dublin Gospel Choir and SO much more to be announced.

But don’t just take our word for it. Grab your tickets now and see you in the fields of fun 😉🌈🦄
